The Ottawa REDBLACKS are off to a flying start in 2024, and head into their bye week the winner of three consecutive games. The time off comes at the perfect moment, giving players – and staff – a chance to rest, rejuvenate, and spend time with their families.
While some players have remained in the city, others have taken the opportunity to go home – wherever that may be – or even board a flight for a much-needed vacation.
On Wednesday, Justin Howell, Cleyon Laing, and Nigel Romick took the opportunity to get out to Nordik Spa-Nature in Chelsea, Quebec. There, they enjoyed the amenities, including the pools, hot tubs, and sauna, while also enjoying the company of their teammates.
Relaxing poolside is a great way to unwind, but for Jacob Ruby, there’s nothing better than some good barbecue. On his brand-new grill, he’s been enjoying some ribeye steaks, cooked to absolute perfection.
The offensive line unit tends to have their fair share of cookouts at different points of the year, and it’s safe to say Ruby is more than likely relied upon as the grill master.
On the topic of good eats, Blessman Ta’ala is in the good food capital of the world: Italy. Along with his significant other, he has seen the Equestrian statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, and many other landmarks.
Of course, it has also come with many great meals, one of which Ta’ala shared on his Instagram featured a traditional pasta with red sauce, and a favourable amount of parmesan cheese.
Another REDBLACK on vacation is Richie Leone, who has taken a trip to New York City. He’s visited the New York Athletic Club building, as well as the 9/11 Memorial, sharing a touching photo of One World Trade Center on his Instagram.
In the case of Devonte Dedmon, his time off is being spent in the community, teaching kids the basics of football. He shared a story of a quarterback and catching drill for kids, involving footwork and throwing technique.
For everyone, there are different ways to spend the bye week, but for each of them, it’s an important step in ensuring they’re ready for the REDBLACKS’ Week 10 game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders next Thursday night.
