Le rouge et noir organisent la soirée de l’héritage contre le Ticats vendredi

On the heels of back-to-back overtime victories, the Ottawa REDBLACKS will be getting some reinforcements for their home matchup vs the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Friday night.

For the first time this season, prized free agent acquisitions in linebacker Jovan Santos-Knox, and receiver Shaq Evans will suit up, with halfback Cariel Brooks also returning from a weeks-long injury absence, as Ottawa looks to secure their third-straight victory, under the lights at 7:00pm ET.

Ottawa won a second straight game past regulation, Sunday, picking up a 43-41 road win over the Calgary Stampeders. Dustin Crum threw for 254 yards, and a pair of touchdowns to Justin Hardy, an Nate Behar, respectively, also rushing in a two-point conversion. Ante Milanovic-Litre ran a pair of majors over the goal line, and Behar hauled in the game-winning two-point attempt in overtime.

On defence, Damon Webb, and Michael Wakefield sacked the quarterback, with Brandin Dandridge recording a pick six for the second straight game, and Alonzo Addae nabbing his first CFL interception.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

After beating the REDBLACKS in Week 5 —the game in which Jeremiah Masoli went down for Ottawa — and the Edmonton Elks in Week 6, the Ti-Cats came crashing back down to Earth, last week. Third-string quarterback Taylor Powell was thrust into action, throwing for 283 yards and an interception, in a 31-15 loss to the undefeated Toronto Argonauts. The youngster had his team’s only touchdown, with a rushing major, to go with a trio of field goals from Marc Liegghio.

Hamilton was led on defence by Stavros Katsantonis, who recorded a team-high seven tackles.

All that said, the Ti-Cats will get a boost on offence, as star quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell returns to action for the first time since Week 2, and forcing the REDBLACKS to be mindful of the decorated pivot, defensively.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS:

Dustin Crum, quarterback, on how his supporting cast has allowed him to flourish: “Any kind of experience helps, but having guys like Behar, Jaelon Acklin, Justin Hardy, Siaosi Mariner, all of those guys, gives you confidence as a quarterback. It allows you to play your best when you have guys around you that you know are going to be in the right spots.”

Bob Dyce, Head Coach, on Ottawa’s resilience over this recent stretch: “When you’re struggling or you fall behind, you find out who people are. We’ve got a great group of guys who believe in each other, who fight for each other. That’s why we’ve been successful. We’ve continued to get better. Earlier, we didn’t win as much as we would have liked, but they saw themselves getting better, and they were sold on that. Now, you’ve got the benefit of a couple of victories. We know if we don’t continue doing the same things with the same hard work and same compete level, we’re not going to get the same results.”
