The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced today that they have re-signed four-time CFL All-Star American kicker Richie Leone.
« I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to continue playing for REDBLACKS, » said Leone. “This is my fifth season in the Nation’s Capital, and RNation should expect great things from us; there will be plenty to cheer on the banks of the Rideau Canal in 2023.
Leone, 30, is a six-year CFL veteran and has spent the past four seasons with the REDBLACKS. The Roswell, Georgia native had 4,315 net yards last season, averaging 40.7 yards per punt: the second-highest scorer of his CFL career.
A vital part of Ottawa’s perennial star on the special teams, Leone has earned Division All-Star Game honors five times (2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021), and All-Star Game recognition from the league four times (2015, 2016, 2019, 2021). Before coming to Ottawa, he made his CFL debut with the BC Lions in 2015, where he played for two seasons.
